Culford School April 2023

The ‘funny face’ shot!

We enjoyed another superb weekend of music at Culford School in April, with 60 musicians in attendance. Once again, an excellent standard of performance was achieved in just two days and everyone enjoyed the challenge of working on a variety of music from the Symphonic Wind Band Repertoire. Some of the music tackled included: ‘Voice of The Vikings’ ‘(Michael Geisler), ‘Queen Symphonic Highlights’ ‘and ‘Music’ (Arr. Philip Sparke), ‘Slavonic Rhapsody No 2’ (C. Friedemann)

We chose two solo items for April’s event: ‘Marianne’ (arr. Geoff Kingston), performed on alto sax by Madhu Pike and ‘Big Dipper’ (Macpherson), performed on Xylophone by Rob Head.

There was still time for plenty of socialising in the bar during the evening and the quiz that was available for all those who wanted to attempt it, proved to be a little more challenging than last year but the winning team ‘Double Reed Madness’ still managed to achieve an impressive score of 60 out of 60.

Full Band Rehearsals

Although rehearsals were intense, there was always room for some humour!

Musicians joined us from several bands located around the country including Ipswich Hospital Band, Take Note Concert Band, St. Neots Concert Band, Brecon Town Concert Band, Stan Hacking Concert Band, Maidstone Wind Symphony, Bury Concert Band, Norwich Concert Band, RAF Honington Voluntary Band, The Royal Signals (Northern) Band and many more ……… !

Saturday evening ensembles

Musicians who chose to take part in the informal Saturday evening ensembles enjoyed the opportunity to perform a piece they had rehearsed, in the bar afterwards.
