What a fantastic weekend of music we all experienced at Culford in November. The focus this weekend was on one major work entitled ‘The Ghost Ship’ by Jose Alberto Pina. This dramatic work is based on the famous shipwreck of the SS American Star and the composer encapsulates perfectly the heavy storm and the mysterious events that follow. The band tackled this complex piece of music with exceptional skill and enthusiasm, the atmosphere being enhanced by the composer’s electronic sounds. These were a challenge for both band and conductor but a perfect result was achieved in our final playthrough.
Other pieces tackled during the weekend were the evocative ‘Ammerland’ by Jacob de Haan, ‘Aurora Borealis’ by Rossano Galante and for a bit of light relief ‘ Tico Tico’ arranged by Naohiro Iwai.
