Wind Band Play Days
With Tom Milford at:
Sunday 25th February 2024
******** We are very much looking forward to our first event of 2024, our ‘Play Day’ at Culford on 25th February. To encourage as many young musicians as possible to come along, we are offering three free places to those aged 16 – 18. If you would like to apply, please just email us at: email@example.com mentioning your name, age and instrument and outlining, in a short paragragh, what you enjoy about music and why you would like to come along for the day. Entries should be with us by Sunday 14th January and successful applicants will be notified shortly afterwards ********
Our Wind Band Play Days are held at Culford School, Suffolk throughout the year and are open to musicians aged 16 and over with a minimum playing standard of around grade 4 or equivalent.
Who is it for?
If you are an adult returning to playing after a break, a young person who would like to gain experience playing in a large ensemble, a group of musicians from a community or concert band who would like the challenge of an intensive day of rehearsals or anyone who just wants to come along and have fun playing some great music, then this could be for you!
While we don’t ask for a minimum standard as such, to gain the most out of the day you will need to be able to read music to a competent standard.
Our conductor, Tom Milford has a wide experience of directing musicians of all ages and abilities and whatever your musical background, he will be able to encourage you and bring out the best in your playing. Read more about Tom here
Culford school is an independent day and boarding school in the village of Culford, 4 miles north of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England. At the heart of the school is Culford Hall, an impressive 18th century mansion standing in stunning grounds. Within the hall is the fabulous Centenary Hall which provides an excellent environment for our full band sessions. Directions can be found on our weekend course page here
Our play days commence at 9:30am and finish at 5:00pm with breaks for refreshments and lunch. The last session of the day will be a very informal play-through / concert of some of the music rehearsed, to which you can invite family and friends to come along and listen if you wish. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be supplied on the day.
We select a variety of music which will be interesting and enjoyable for our musicians to play and which is within the ability levels for all attending. The aim is to improve sight reading and develop ensemble playing skills.
Refreshments are provided during the morning and afternoon breaks and a buffet lunch, catering for any special dietary requirements, is also included in the course fee. We also provide bottled water for use during rehearsals and water taps are on hand to fill up you own water bottles.
What should I bring?
You just need to bring your instrument and yourself! Music stands, pencils and music for the day are all provided and we also supply hearing protection for those that would like to use it.
